In other words, you start to crave the person you're in love with like a drug.
Romantic love is a primitive response
Experts have said that romantic love is one of the most powerful emotions a person can have. Humans' brains have been wired to choose a mate, and we humans become motivated to win over that mate, sometimes going to extremes to get their attention and affection.
"You can feel happy when you're in love, but you can also feel anxious," said Aron's co-author, Lucy Brown, a neuroscientist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. "The other person becomes a goal in life," essentially, a prize. >>

The copy editor in me doesn't dispute the thesis, but questions the usage. Portions of the brain don't "get activated". They are passive, so the line should have read, "are activated". Similarly, I would not have used the words ...emotions a person can have", but rather "...a person can experience". I know, picky, picky.
Your comment noted. ;-)) Recall I did not write the article. . .lol. .I am only a reader, like you. It is the concept we are studying, not the wordings or grammar. lol Maybe you write the author of the article?
Have you noticed many news and magazine articles are grossly/poorly written. . and people don't even notice. . . TV helps this too. . .and the majority don't even notice. . .or even care.
I, too,am guilty of these transgressions, especially if I'm fired up on a couple of glasses of wine.
