Yup, I read it....and remembered that for some time I've not known what GOP means. I've read it several times on linked posts to this blog and in my head I've called it "Gay Old People"...lol.

So, just now I blogged it....and realised that I wasn't on my own in not knowing what the hell it meant.
...and I quote:
"The latest Vanity Fair/CBS News poll asked Americans what the abbreviation GOP means, and 49% of Republicans got it wrong.

The poll asked, what does the abbreviation GOP stand for? Only 45% of Americans correctly identified it as the Grand Old Party. Fifty one percent of Republicans, 47% of Independents, and only 38% of Democrats got it right. Over a third of respondents (35%) thought that it meant government of the people. Thirty four percent of Republicans, 32% of Independents, and 39% of Democrats incorrectly held this belief.

Seven percent of those surveyed thought it meant Grumpy Old People, not surprisingly Democrats were the most likely group (9%) to believe this. God’s Own Party was chosen by 3%, and Republicans were the most likely group to attach this incorrect meaning to the abbreviation. Gauntlet of Power was selected by 1%, and 9% didn’t know."

So there it is, I am not alone...lol...
Wouldn't "they" just love to be thought of as Gay Old People....
....quite a chuckle.

Very interesting info Greg. Reminds me of an Aussie camera crew in the States asking Americans if they could name a country starting with the letter U. Some gave up, some nominated Uganda or the USSR, one thought it might be Yugoslavia, but not one of them nominated the United States. Hehe.

BTW, I googled COOP the other day and it said it was a place where chickens are kept. There ya go.

I was only joking about the chickens, Coop.

Yes, coopers made barrels, which is a real art form. I've seen it on telly. The old clinker built wooden boats are another. The famous Hollywood actor, Gary Cooper was nicknamed Coop. I think my dad chose to name me Gary because of him... which was long before Gary Glitter, of course.
